DIAZ-BALART RECALLS VICTIMS ON 5TH
ANNIVERSARY
OF SINKING OF "13 OF MARZO" TUGBOAT
Washington, D.C. — Congressman Lincoln Diaz-Balart (R-FL)
issued the following statement today commemorating the 5th anniversary of the
unconscionable crime against humanity committed by the Cuban dictatorship on July 13,
1994; the cold blooded murder of over 40 men, women and children:
"Today marks the 5th anniversary of the brutal murder of over 40
men, women and children by the Castro dictatorship when over 70 refugees attempted to
leave Cuba on the tugboat "13 de Marzo". Their vessel was pursued and attacked
by Castro’s security "griffins" until the 13 de Marzo sank drowning the 40,
including over 20 children. The refugees "crime" was to attempt to leave the
oppression they faced in Cuba. Castro issued the direct order to murder these innocent
victims.
We know of this incident only because there were survivors in this
case.
There can be no peace in our hemisphere while a regime in our midst is
at war with its own people and is continuously engaging in irregular forms of warfare
against others in the hemisphere.
The Clinton Administration continues to ignore the tragedy of
Cuba’s oppression and deals with the issue of Cuba as solely one of immigration. As
we recall the victims of the "13 de Marzo", we must intensify our efforts to
help the Cuban people achieve their freedom. It is a moral imperative, and the only way to
truly honor the victims of the Cuban tyranny."

DIAZ-BALART RECUERDA A LAS VICTIMAS EN
EL QUINTO ANIVERSARIO DE LOS ASESINATOS DEL REMOLCADOR 13 DF MARZO
Washington, D.C. — El Congresista
Lincoln Díaz-Balart (R-FL) hizo la siguiente declaración hoy con respecto al crimen
contra Ia humanidad cometido por Ia tiranía cubana el 13 de julio de 1994; el asesinato a
sangre fría de hombres, mujeres y niños:
"Hoy se conmemora eI quinto aniversario
del brutal asesinato de la masacre de 40 hombres, mujeres y niños por Ia tiranía
castrista cuando intentaban huir de Cuba en el remolcador "13 de Marzo". La nave
fue perseguida y atacada por las "griffin" de Ia seguridad de Castro hasta que
el remolcador se hundió ahogando a más de 40 personas, entre ellos a más de 20 niños.
El "crimen" de los refugiados fue intentar huir de Ia opresión que vivían en
Cuba. Castro ordenó personalmente el asesinato de estas víctimas inocentes. Y solo
pudimos conocer este incidente porque hubo sobrevivientes.
No puede existir paz en nuestro hemisferio
mientras exista entre nosotros un régimen en guerra con su propio pueblo.
La Administración Clinton continua
ignorando Ia tragedia de Ia opresión cubana y solo trata el tema como uno de
inmigración. Al recordar a Ia víctimas del "13 de Marzo" tenemos que
intensificar nuestros esfuerzos para ayudar al pueblo cubano a lograr su libertad. Es un
imperativo moral y la única manera de realmente honrar a las víctimas de la tiranía
cubana." |
