DIAZ-BALART CONDEMNS ARREST OF CZECH CITIZENS IN CUBA

Washington, D.C. - Congressman Lincoln Diaz-Balart (R-FL) today condemned the illegal arrest of two distinguished citizens of the Czech Republic, Mr. Ivan Pilip, a member of the Czech parliament, and Mr. Jan Bubenik, by the totalitarian Cuban dictatorship.

"The arrest of Ivan Pilip and Jan Bubenik by the Castro dictatorship due to their peaceful meetings with members of the Cuban internal opposition is just one more despicable example of Castro's refusal to allow any democratic opening in Cuba. The international community has the obligation to condemn in the strongest possible terms the arrest of these two Czech citizens by the Castro regime and demand their immediate release.

It is imperative that the international community make clear to the Cuban dictatorship that it is time to free all political prisoners and hold free and democratic elections.  It is only a matter of time before the rotten Cuban regime collapses and Cuba is free. The moribund tyranny in Cuba is seeking to pressure President Havel and the Czech Republic into a policy of appeasement of the dictatorship.  I am certain that Castro will fail in this obvious, condemnable attempt at blackmail.  This is the time for the whole world to stand with the Czech Republic, to insist upon the immediate release of the Czech citizens, and to recognize that the Cuban dictatorship is a simply a criminal enterprise with the title of a government."

Washington, DC – El Congresista Lincoln Díaz-Balart (R-FL) condenó ayer el arresto ilegal de dos distinguidos ciudadanos checos, el señor Iván Pilip, miembro del parlamento checo, y el señor Jan Bubenik, por la tiranía totalitaria en Cuba.

"El arresto de Iván Pilip y Jan Bubenik por la tiranía castrista a raíz de sus reuniones pacíficas con miembros de la oposición interna cubana son otro repugnante ejemplo de la negativa de Castro de permitir cualquier apertura democrática en Cuba. La comunidad internacional tiene la obligación de condenar en los términos más fuertes posibles el arresto de estos dos ciudadanos checos por el régimen castrista y exigir su liberación inmediata.

Es imperativo que la comunidad internacional le indique claramente a la tiranía cubana que ha llegado el momento de liberar a todos los presos políticos y convocar a elecciones libres. Falta poco tiempo para el colapso del régimen cubano y para la llegada de la libertad a Cuba. La moribunda tiranía cubana busca presionar al Presidente Havel y a la República Checa para lograr de ellos una política de apaciguamiento. Yo estoy seguro de que Castro fracasará en este obvio y condenable intento de chantaje. Es hora de que el mundo entero se mantenga firme junto a la República Checa para insistir en la liberación inmediata de estos ciudadanos checos y que reconozca que la tiranía cubana es simplemente una empresa criminal que sé auto-titula un gobierno," dijo Díaz-Balart.
