Our Responsibility as We Face the New Millennium

The following document, approved at the FORUM, convened by the California Chapter of ALPHA 66, has been signed by representatives of the main Cuban organizations of Southern California, and individually by the Cubans who feel in their soul the suffering of the people in Cuba, subjected to the slave system imposed by communism.

Humanity faces the dawn of the third millennium. We are entering the 21st Century and leave behind the incongruences of the 20th Century. On the one hand, during this century we have seen inventions, progress and changes
in the way of life never dreamed of by those that preceded us.Some have been marvelous, in many cases difficult to control, but it is undeniable that the last hundred years have completely changed the manner in which we live on this planet.

But if is true that the minds which have contributed to the changes, in most cases, were thinking of improving our lives and the welfare of humans, it is also true that in this 20th Century we have seen how human cruelty has reached limits and proportions previously unknown.

Never before has humanity suffered a holocaust like the one carried out by Adolf Hitler's National Socialism in Germany. Never had suffering been so great, or cost so many innocent lives, like the imposition of the communist
system in the countries that fell under the tyranny of Mao Tse-Tung in China an other Asian countries. Likewise under Lenin's and Stalin's brutal boot first
in the Soviet Union and later in other East European countries. And finally the communists were handed on a silver platter by the traitor Fidel Castro a revolution that the Cuban people had initiated and fought against Fulgencio Batista.

The holocaust ended in Germany with Hitler's defeat during World War II. The red power ended in Russia and Eastern Europe; it's last act being the fall of the Berlin Wall, that bloody symbol of the communist disgrace. In Asia, however, and in spite of the efforts of the Chinese youth that culminated in the horrendous massacre in Tiananmen Square, Communism still refuses to loosen its grip on China, Vietnam and North Korea.

The beastly communist system has taken possession of the Cuban people, our people, smashing our way of life, our institutions and our rights. That which cost so much of our founding fathers' blood in their struggle to free us from the Spanish Empire, and so many of our youth which gave their very lives for preserving in the Republic the principles of law and rights inherent to
a free people, all has been soiled, perverted, and taken advantage of, by the
debauchery presided over by the ominous tyrant of Fiddle Castro.

We are in the last year of the century and understand that all of us must make a final effort to gain the liberation of our enslaved nation. Those of us that never surrendered our right to fight, even in exile, and have endured insults from those that follow orders from the tyranny accusing us of being extremists, have met at this FORUM with the purpose of leaving evidence in a public document that:

FIRST: We reiterate our position of always opposing any and all dialogs with those that tyrannize the Cuban people and ratify our right to fight by all means, without asking anyone for permission, until we gain freedom for our country.

SECOND: We consider that during this year 1999, last in the 20th Century, in which the tyranny feels threaten more than ever by the pressure of a rebellious nation, and resorts to extreme measures in order to prevent its fall,
we in exile must make the supreme effort in order to increase the fight.

THIRD: We consider all assistance or recognition of the Communist system in our country, by persons, organizations or governments, as an insult to the Cuban people in the island, because it only serves to prolong the suffering perpetrated by the tyranny.

FOURTH: We desire to call attention to those who help prolong the suffering of the Cuban people, that history has its eyes fixed on the pain felt by the Cubans and no one will escape from its justice. There is no possible justification for smiling, embracing, or playing games with an usurper that for more than forty years has trampled the rights of that nation, and who deserves to be scorned for the crimes which he has committed, and continues to commit.

And as evidence we sign this document which reflects the thoughts of the Cuban Fighters, in the State of California, in the City of Downey, on the 13th day of March nineteen hundred and ninety nine.

El siguiente documento, acordado en el FORUM convocado por la Coordinación de California del ALPHA 66, ha sido firmado por representantes de las principales organizaciones cubanas del Sur de California, e individualmente por los cubanos que sienten en su alma el dolor del pueblo de Cuba, sujeto al sistema esclavista impuesto por el comunismo.

NUESTRA RESPONSABILIDAD ANTE EL NUEVO MILENIO

La humanidad se encuentra en los albores del tercer milenio. Entramos en el Siglo 21 y dejamos atrás las incongruencias del Siglo 20. Por una parte hemos visto en este siglo inventos, adelantos y cambios en la forma de vida como no soñaron los que nos precedieron en el siglo anterior. Algunos han sido maravillosos, en muchos casos difíciles de controlar, pero es innegable que estos últimos cien años han cambiado por completo la forma en que se vive en este planeta Tierra.

Pero si es cierto que las mentes que han contribuido a los cambios, en su mayoría, han estado pensando en el mejoramiento de la vida del hombre, en el bien de los humanos, no es menos cierto que en este Siglo 20 hemos visto como la crueldad humana ha llegado a límites y escalas que no se conocían en épocas anteriores.

Nunca la humanidad había padecido un holocausto de seres humanos como el que produjo el nacionalsocialismo de Adolfo Hitler en Alemania y nunca se había sufrido tanto, ni costado tantas vidas inocentes como la implantación del sistema comunista en los paises que cayeron bajo la tiranía de Mao Tse-Tung en China y otros paises asiáticos y bajo la bota cruel de Lenin y Stalin en la Union Soviética primero y en varios otros países del Este de Europa más tarde. Llegando al final a recibir, en bandeja de plata, entregada por el traidor Fidel Castro, la insurrección que el pueblo cubano había llevado a cabo contra Fulgencio Batista.

El holocausto terminó en Alemania con la derrota de Hitler en la II Guerra Mundial y terminó el poderío rojo en Rusia y el Este de Europa, siendo su último acto el desplome del Muro de Berlín, símbolo sangriento del oprobio comunista. En Asia, a pesar de los esfuerzos de la juventud china que culminaron con la horrorosa masacre de la Plaza de Tiananmen, aun el comunismo no suelta sus garras en China, así como tampoco en Vietnan y Corea del Norte.

Y cuarenta años lleva ya ese bestial sistema comunista enseñoreándose sobre el pueblo cubano, nuestro pueblo, haciendo añicos nuestras costumbres, nuestras instituciones y nuestros derechos. Lo que tanta sangre costó a nuestros Mambises en su lucha por liberarnos del imperio de España y tanta juventud que dio su vida por preservar en la República la ley y los derechos inherentes a un pueblo libre, todo ha sido mancillado, pervertido y aprovechado por la crápula que preside el nefasto tirano Fidel Castro.

Estamos en el último año de este siglo y entendemos que todos debemos hacer un esfuerzo final para lograr la liberación de nuestra patria esclava, los que nunca hemos rendido nuestro derecho de luchar, aun desde este destierro, soportando injurias de los que siguiendo las orientaciones que vienen de la tiranía, nos califican de extremistas, hemos convocado a este FORUM, con el propósito de dejar constancia en un documento público que:

PRIMERO: Que reiteramos nuestra posición de siempre contra cualquier diálogo con los que tiranizan al pueblo cubano y ratificamos nuestro derecho a luchar por todos los medios, sin pedir permiso a nadie, hasta lograr la liberación de nuestra patria.

SEGUNDO: Que consideramos que en este año de 1999, último del siglo 20, en que la tiranía se siente amenazada más que nunca por la presión de un
pueblo en rebeldía y recurre a medidas extremas para evitar su caída, nosotros en el exilio debemos hacer un esfuerzo superior para incrementar la lucha.

TERCERO: Que consideramos toda ayuda o reconocimiento al sistema comunista en nuestro país, por personas, organizaciones o gobiernos, como un agravio al pueblo cubano de la isla, incluyendo el envío de dólares, pues solo sirve para prolongar el sufrimiento que la tiranía representa.

CUARTO: Que deseamos llamar la atención a los que ayudan a prolongar ese sufrimiento del pueblo cubano, que la historia tiene los ojos puestos en el dolor de los cubanos y nadie escapará a su juicio. No hay justificación alguna para sonreir, abrazar, o hacerle el juego a un usurpador que por más de cuarenta años, ha pisoteado los derechos de ese pueblo, y que solo merece desprecio por los crímenes que ha cometido y que continua cometiendo.

Y para constancia firmamos el presente Documento que refleja el pensamiento de los Cubanos luchadores, en el Estado de California, en la Ciudad de Downey, a los 13 días del mes de Marzo de mil novecientos noventa y nueve.
